The victory at Gettysburg was significant for multiple reasons. First if it was a great morale boost for the union and some say it was the definitive push to stop to the invasion plan of the North.

Also it cut the south off from pivotal parts of their land used for their supplies such as Texas and Louisiana and gave the union primary control of the Mississippi River.
