Cognitive dissonance refers to the state of exhibiting inconsistent beliefs, thoughts, or attitudes, mainly as associated with attitude change and behavioral decisions.  

The cognitive dissonance assists in minimizing the discriminatory behavior or unconsciously prejudiced by creating a tension between the actions and the intentions, which the individual is encouraged to decrease by modifying one's behavior.
