A canoe in still water travels at a rate of 10 miles per hour. The current today is traveling at a rate of 3 miles per hour. If it took an extra hour to travel upstream, how far was the trip one way?

Let n be the length of the trip. Then:
n/(10-3) =n/(10+3) +1
n/7=n/13  +1
13n=7n+91
6n=91
n=91/6 miles
