That depends on what you consider to be the first American. One could say the first American was a ancient hunter-gatherer, thousands of years ago who traveled across the Bering Sea (between Alaska and Russia), when it was frozen over or a land bridge was present. You could also say the first Americans were the one's present from the moment the declaration of independence was signed.
