In contrast to a Greek temple, Roman temples usually were pseudo-peripteral. Pseudo means 'fake,' and peripteral refers to the fact that a temple is surrounded by columns on each side, which was the case with Greek temples. Roman temples didn't have columns in the back of the temple, which is why they are known as pseudo-peripteral.
