the purpose of the speech was to inspire and bring about a movement of change for the human race but specifically African Americans. he was saying in his speech that he has a dream that all black people will be treated equally and justly. the basic purpose was to empower the quality movement so that African Americans could one day be treated like they are people instead of treated like they are not just as human as you and I are just because of the pigment of their skin.
