Solve the equation by using the combination method

3x-2y=12

-3x+8y=-6

Combine the 2 equations:


3x-2y=12

-3x+8y=-6

6y = 6, which tells us that y=1.


Now subst. 1 for y in the 2nd equation: -3x +8(1) = -6.

Then 14=3x, and x = 14/3.


The solution is (14/3,1).
