to turn 3.5 into a frac. just write the 3 as the whole number, then write 5 as the numerator, and since it says 5 tenths, write 3 5/10, finally simplifies to 35/10.  
   (i am in middle school)
3.5 is 7 divided by 2.

3.5=7/2

3.5=3+1/2
