let the smaller number be represented by x and the larger number x+13
x+x+13=35                                                x+13=11+13=24
2x+13=35                                                   11+24=35
2x+13-13=35-13                         therefore the two numbers are11 and 24
2x=22
2x/2=22/2
x=11
