Cell reproduction is the process by which cells divide to form new cells. Each time a cell divides, it makes a copy of all of its chromosomes, which are tightly coiled strands of DNA.

In sexual reproduction, two parents produce gametes that unite in the process of fertilization to form a single-celled zygote. Meiosis is the type of cell division that produces four haploid daughter cells that may become gametes.
