Jean Paul Marat was a writer for a publishing news called L'Ami du peuple (Friend of the People). In those newspaper, he wrote series of argument on the incompetency of the current French Nobles and advocated for the masses to rised up against them.

This contributed to the violence that occurred during the French Revolution. The masses captured a lot of novels and either held them as prisoners or directly executed them.
