Answer:

The one child policy created an imbalance between the genders. Since parents wanted someone who would take care of them when they grew old, they wanted baby boys instead of girls. For this reason, lots of female infants were killed at birth or through abortion. Even though the one-child policy is no longer enforced, it's affects can still be seen in the high number of males to females. The sex ratio of the country is heavily skewed.
