Separate the figure into two solvable figures.

Extend the line which measures 6 ft downwards until it touches the end.

Now that line separates the two figures (a big figure and a small one).

To solve the area,

A = base × height

Big figure:

A = 8 × 10

A = 80 ft²

Small figure:

A = 2 × 4

A = 8 ft²

Now add the two figure areas together.

80 + 8 = 88 ft²

So the area of the composite figure is 88 ft²
