Subtract the 2 equations to eliminate the variable y

2x+2y=5​

-(5x+2y=-11)

-3x=16

Divide by -3 on both sides

x= -16/3

Plug -16/3 in for x in the first equation to find y

2x+2y=5

2(-16/3)+2y=5

Multiply

-32/3+2y=5

Add 32/3 to both sides

2y=47/3

Divide both sides by 2

y=47/6

x=-16/3 and y =47/6
