The early people were impressed by those people who could cook and produce food.  

Explanation:

The early people were the people who did not have so many facilities to live their life so comfortably. They were more dependent on the natural things for the survival and for living their lives.

These people were very impressed by the people who could produce food and thought that it is a good thing to produce food. Thus they were impressed by those people.
