Why was the development of towns economically important?

Answer:

Before the industrialization towns sprung along trade routes. Centers of trade would be big and rich towns that had many markets and many merchants would pass there and get a chance to rest there and sell or buy goods. The richer the trade route was the bigger and richer the town would be. Many people would come to live there and even work there.
