What is a positive effect that predators have on a prey population?

The answer for this question is this: They keep the prey population low so they will be less likely to deplete resources such as food, water, and shelter.
Predator eats its prey and makes it as its food, when the predator keeps on eating its prey then the population of the prey will lessen and the competition between the same species will lessen.
