How many lengths of shelving 26 in long can be cut from an 8-ft 1in ×8-in board?

1 foot = 12 inches.

An 8 ft 1 inch long board = 8 x 12 = 96 + 1 = 97 total inches long.

Now divide the length of the  total length of the board by the length of the shelve:

97 / 26 = 3.69

You can cut 3 shelves.
