What does high glucose levels do to the body

well Glucose is the fueal for all the cells in out body,But it can behave like a slow acting poison,High sugar levels slowly erode the ability of cells in your pancreas to make insulin,,So I'm thinking it's break down when it goes down your digestive system and release a hormone called insulin
