In the 1500s, the Church of England's main difference from the Catholic Church, was that it rejected rejected the supremacy of the Pope Clement VII and King Henry VIII established himself as the head of the church.  In part, this was due to England's expansion,  this way the Anglican Church had more local control and had a greater amount of autonomy.
