A spherical tank has a capacity of 800 gallons. Using the fact that 1 gallon is about 0.1337 ft3, find the radius of the tank (to the nearest hundredth of a foot).

Solution-

Capacity of the spherical tank = 800 gallons.

1 gallon = 0.1337 ft³,

Volume of 800 gallons = 800 × 0.1337 = 106.96 ft³

Formula for the volume of sphere

[tex]V =\frac{4\pi r^{3}}{3}[/tex]

Equating both the volumes

⇒ [tex]\frac{4\pi r^{3}}{3}[/tex] = 106.96

⇒ [tex]r^{3}[/tex] = 25.53

⇒ [tex]r = \sqrt[3]{25.53}[/tex]

⇒ r = 2.94

∴ Radius of the sphere is 2.94 ft
