The value of Q should be 20, because 12 taken away from 20 is 8, so Q=20

We already know the values of the '12' and the '8'.
The only value we need to find is the value of the 'Q'.
Here's how:

The equation:                    Q - 12  =   8

Add  12  to each side:      Q          =  20 .
