Use the distance formula:

D = sqrt( [4+2]^2 + [-6-4]^2 ) = sqrt( 6^2 + 10^2 ) = sqrt (136)
This could be reduced.  Note that 4 (a perfect square) is a factor of 136.

Thus, D = 2*sqrt(34).
